Obituary for Andrew Gordon Price

Andrew Gordon Price left this life at age 41 on June 24, 2018 after a six-year struggle with brain cancer. To the end, he was upbeat and positive, enjoying the steady stream of visitors who came to pay their respects. Andy touched many lives and his imprint will never be forgotten by those who knew him.

Andy was born in Denver, Colorado and moved around for a portion of his early life, living in Montana, Washington, Colorado and finally settling in Utah. He met his wife Betsie Lyn Jones while attending Brighton High School in Sandy, UT. They married on June 23, 2000 and were blessed with three daughters: Kess, Kira and Natasha in the years following.

He found great joy in many aspects of his life including his family, faith, friends, child advocacy and most of all, his daughters and his wife. He called his daughters his “jewels” and Betsie was his best friend. Their life together was a study in love and gratitude. Andy and Betsie had great love for each other and their girls, often taking trips to make memories and share their passions. They grew up in a home that knew the intellectual value of exploration and the calming, courageous influence of love.

His passion for helping youth and natural talent for family mediation grew out of his experience as a group home parent and in-home crisis worker for Utah Youth Village, where he was employed for 10 years. He and Betsie served many troubled youth and their families during that time where Andy’s innate ability to lead people to a greater understanding of their own abilities set many of the youth he worked with on the path to a fulfilled life. As a tireless advocate, Andy blessed the lives of countless youth, children, and families both in his work and service and held true to the ideal “help one child, help generations to come.”

Prompted by his diagnosis, Andy decided to pursue another passion of his—law. Rather than put life on hold, Andy chose to work harder as he faced an uncertain future with faith and meekness. His family moved to Moscow, Idaho, to help him chase his dream and after three years of intense study, he received his Juris Doctor in Law from the University of Idaho in 2017. He was awarded the Spirit of the Clinic Award by Dr. Maureen Laflin who lauded his mediation skills and work ethic. Sadly, after graduating, his condition took an immediate turn for the worse and he was never able to practice law, a desire and passion he held until the end.

Andy’s desire for the truth led him to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the tender age of 14. After joining the church and moving to Utah with his mother and stepfather, he was welcomed into a loving ward and community where he met some of his closest and dearest life-long friends. Later, he served in the California Fresno mission where he labored with honor.

Andy was also passionate about his friends, referring to them often as his family. He made friends easily, but with those to whom he was closest, he shared his most vibrant and thought-provoking insights. He and his friends shared a particular passion for Star Trek, Star Wars, Comics, Film Scores, Movies, The Denver Broncos, Sushi and of course, Mt. Dew.

Andy is survived by his wife Betsie and their daughters Kess Alexis, Kira Aeryn and Natasha Nydia. His mother Nancy and stepfather, Wayne Cadigan. His sister, Keeley (Price) Hages and brothers James Cadigan and Thomas (Alyssa) Cadigan. He is also survived by his father; Ronald Michael (Kathi) Price; nephews Benjamin Lamont Ottoson, Tyce Mathew Jones, Cameron James Jones, Harrison Alan Jones, Ryker Jacob Cadigan, Evan Patrick Cadigan, and nieces Mary Rachel Kimberly Jones, and Chloe Brooke Cadigan and his grandmother, Marcia Cadigan.

The family would like to thank his healthcare team at the Huntsman Neuro-oncology Unit and Applegate Home & Hospice.

The funeral will be at Jenkins Soffe South Valley at 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy (10600 S) on Friday June 29th at 1:30 pm with a viewing prior from 12:30-1:15 and on Thursday June 28th from 6pm to 8pm.

Following the funeral there will be a private graveside dedication service.

Contributions may be made to the Andrew Price Memorial Fund at Mountain America Credit Unions which will fund his daughter's education accounts.
