Obituary for Arlene Powell Cook

Arlene Powell, age 83, passed away on December 27, 2017. She was born September 13, 1934 in Wattis, Carbon County, Utah to Leland Powell and Luella Grange.
She received her Associates degree from Carbon College in Price, Utah, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from BYU. She taught Home Economics and English at San Juan high school in Blanding, Utah, where she met John Ellsworth Cook. They were married September 10, 1960 in Huntington, Utah; later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were married for 55 years and were blessed with five sons.
Arlene worked at the Murray Library, retiring after 30 years of service. She had many callings in the LDS Church, was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for years, taught 4H and Merit Badges for the Scouts, and was an avid genealogist. She also loved teaching her sons to cook, camp, and work in the yard.
Arlene is survived by sons: Mark, Brian (Lily), Darren, Paul, and Kyle (Karen); 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Max (Joyleen), Kent (Brenda), and Connie (Russell). She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hidden Village LDS Ward, 5425 S. Allendale Drive, Murray, Utah, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment: Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery. Share online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
