Obituary for Colleen A. Burningham Hackett

SLC, UT – Colleen Amelia Burningham Hackett, age 86, died July 30, 2017 as a result of multiple health issues. Born November 5, 1930 to Roselene Theresa Dell and George Harry Burningham in Salt Lake City, UT. Received her education in SLC and graduated as a South High Cub in 1949. Colleen unselfishly helped raise and financially support her family, especially her younger brothers. She married James Edward Hackett on January 18, 1956 and couldn’t be more excited when they had their only son, James Patrick, in 1964. Colleen was heavily involved as PTA President of Whittier Elementary, Glendale Middle and South High Schools. She never missed any of her son’s football, basketball or baseball games, either cheering loudly from the sidelines or telling off the other team, coaches and refs! Her cooking was known far and wide (especially her home-made spaghetti with meatballs and popcorn balls.) Her culinary skills were also enjoyed by thousands of kids in the Salt Lake School District for daily lunches. Colleen retired early so she could care for her two favorite “baby darling” grandchildren. Survived by son, James (Julie) Hackett; grandson, Reagan; granddaughter, Reilly; and great-grandson Grayson, whom she also adored. Also survived by brothers, George (Millie), Leonard, and Larry (Marilyn) Burningham; cherished in-laws; cousins; nieces; nephews; and extended family in Wisconsin. Preceded in death by parents; husband; and brother, Jimmy (Gloria) Burningham.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11am at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street in Murray, with viewing from 9:45-10:45am prior to service. Burial: Salt Lake City Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at
