Obituary for Connie Overly Ririe

TIME TO CELEBRATE! On the beautiful morning of October 9, 2017, our beautiful, strong, thoughtful and caring mother returned to be with her Heavenly family; something she had wanted to do for many years. Her struggle with Dementia/Alzheimers and macular degeneration are finally over.

Born on October 24, 1931 in Provo, Utah to Andrew and Alene (Miner) Overly. Married Norman Johnson-Lovendale, divorced. Married Ken S. Ririe, divorced. Connie served faithfully in many different callings for the LDS Church, most being music related. She retired after 20 years of service in Human Resource Management for the Church.

Family meant everything to Mom. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays as she knew all would come together for the festivities and fall was her favorite season.

As a young child, she loved being with her Grandma Effie, especially when she would pick her up and slip a peppermint into her mouth. Also fond memories of the window shopping trips downtown with her Grandma Overly.

Mom was an avid speed reader, loved to journal, play solitaire, pinochle and bridge. She loved to snow ski as well as waterski on Utah Lake, Pineview Reservoir. Mountains and beaches were her cup of tea especially whale watching and morning beach walks.

Music was a huge part of her life both religiously and secularly, singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and then with the BNTFL Chapter Sweet Adelines for years. Loved attending Broadway musicals with her grandson Brady, Millcreek Canyone, picnics and hot dog roasts with grandsons and friends as well as boat trips on Lake Powell.

After retirement, Mom took up traveling. 3 Snowbird weeks, 1 in Cabo San Lacus and 1 in her beloved Palm Springs. You could never catch her home. Alaska cruises and trips across the pond to England and Scotland, Hawaii, exploring the east and west coasts with friends and family were also special. She would go anywhere, with or without someone.

She leaves behind her cat Gracie (Baby), who was her closest companion, friend and comfort for the last 5 years of her life. Gracie is now one of Char’s family members.

She is survived by children: Char Lovendale (Ririe) Mitchell (Larry), Bryan F. Ririe (Terri), Brad Ririe and stepson Larry Ririe (Celece). She was blessed with 5 grandsons, 7 step-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren and as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Joan Andersen, grandson Brady Mitchell and step-grandson Troy Ririe. Many thanks to her wonderful caregivers and nurses at Pheasant Run Alzheimers Special Care Center in South Jordan and Aspen Ridge Hospice, Rhonda, Sonya and Jeannette.

Per Mom’s wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral. Instead, a visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S), South Jordan. Interment celebration will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:30 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mausoleum, Courtyard of Everlasting Life, 10600 South 1950 East.
