This world just lost one of its greatest men. John Stephen Petrovich of Murray, Utah passed away on November 21, 2017. John was born in the little mining town of Cumberland, Wyoming, on January 6, 1922. He moved to Utah when he was in grade school. He attended Murray High School, where he was a varsity cheerleader and performed in the operettas. He graduated in 1940. He was honored to be a Grand Marshal in the Murray City 4th of July Parade last year, riding as one of the oldest living graduates of MHS.
He served in the United States Air Force during WWII. After an honorable discharge, he came home to marry Gwendolyn Smith on May 28, 1945.
John spent twenty-five years as a Driver License Examiner, where he helped many people leave with their licenses and a smile.
He retired in 1983 to care for Gwen, until her death in 1986. In 1988 John married his childhood classmate, Rose Pevic, and moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming. After Rose’s passing in 2009, he moved back to UT.
John loved spending time with his family, traveling, and camping in his trailer. He was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz.
