Obituary for Lovella Johnson Green

On the outside she appeared to be sleeping, but surely her spirit was dancing Saturday night as she left mortality to finally be reunited with her sweetheart, Francis Glen Green (May 15, 1917-May 20,2001) and her beloved parents, Carl Conrad and LaPreal Hunt Johnson. Lovella Johnson Green was born in the family home on 7th West in Murray, Utah, on her mother’s birthday, May 10, 1924, and was a loyal and passionate resident of Murray City practically all of her life.
As a child of the great depression she grew up without toys or trinkets but learned to love and enjoy people and take pride in developing her own talents. Through participating in 4-H she learned to become an excellent seamstress. She took on various jobs and spoke fondly of working in the Murray City Bakery and at the soda fountain at Murray Drug Store. Later she worked in downtown Salt Lake City at the Federal Reserve Bank.
It was during the ominous pre-World War II era that she was introduced to her sweetheart, Glen Green, who often took her on the train to go dancing to the tunes of the big bands at Saltaire. Only too soon was he enlisted in the Army as war appeared to be inevitable. Their courtship continued through their correspondence for a couple of years while he was stationed in Hawaii. When he received orders to be deployed to Germany he was reassigned for a short time for training at Ft. Bowie, Brownwood, Texas. Lovella hopped on a bus with Glen’s mother and his sister and traveled to Ft. Bowie where they were married May 11, 1944. He was able to take leave the following September so they could be sealed in the Salt Lake Temple before he set off for Germany.
Like thousands of other World War II brides, Lovella shared the uncertainties and fears of a war-torn world. Upon the joyous return of her soldier husband they bought a piece of ground on the dirt road which is now 5900 South and built a small home. There, with meager means, they raised nine children. The children were all taught to work and earn their own money. Together as a family they took on the janitorial upkeep of the Murray First Thrift and Loan building on the corner of State Street and 5900 South for several years.
Lovella was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings and as a diligent visiting teacher throughout her adult life. Most of all she loved the 25 years that she served as a worker in the Jordan River Temple, never missing a day of assignment. She loved people. No stranger could pass by without her efforts to engage them in conversation.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Jolene; 3 granddaughters: Kelly and Kim Green and Carrie Lynn Green Carroll; and her sister, Boots Crabtree. She is survived by a sister, Arlie Johnson; and a brother, Gayle (DeeAnn) Johnson. Also surviving are 8 devoted children: Jay Green, Delwin (Linda) Green, Kathy (Dee) MacKay, son-in-law Palmer Pattison (Jolene, deceased), Scott (Sheree) Green, Jannette (Les) Gardner, Tammie (Craig) Silotti, Dannie (Suzanne) Green, and Karla Jo (Simon Vigil); 31 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W 10600 South, South Jordan with a viewing from 11:30-12:45 prior to the services.
