Obituary for McClellan "Max" Franklin Sailor

McClellan "Max" Franklin Sailor, loving husband, beloved father, and doting grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2018. After a full and rewarding 93 years, he returned to reunite with his loving wife, Vida. Max was born on Nov. 24, 1924 in Park City, Utah, the only child of Forrest Everest Sailor and Goldie Hazel Yates Sailor. At 4 years of age he lost his mother. He was raised by his father, who was helped by his aunts.

Max had a fun and eventful life growing up in a mining town. His interests were skiing, baseball, basketball, and hunting. Max was one of the greatest generation and joined the Navy (only natural for a boy named Sailor) after graduation from Park City High. He served in the Pacific Theater on the troop transport USS Goshen (APA 108). He was always proud of his service and had a deep love for his country.

He married the love of his life, Vida Giles, on April 29, 1946. He joined the LDS Church in 1955. Their marriage was later solemnized in 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. Bruce Max and Deborah were born into this union. Max attended ldaho State University and graduated with a BS in Pharmacy. He worked for 34 years as a pharmacist, mainly for Grand Central and Fred Meyers. He loved the yearly deer hunts with his in-laws. He and Vida loved to travel.

He is survived by his children, Bruce (Nancy) Sailor and Deborah Daniloff. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Goldie Sailor; and sister, Margaret (stillborn).

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 13 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 14, at the Heber City Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Highland Cove Assisted Living for the care given to Max over the last 10 months.
