Obituary for Ronald Dale Kehl

Ronald Dale Kehl (”Pops”), 82, passed away at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sunday, February 11, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Ron was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 25, 1935 to Lela and William J. Kehl. He attended South High School where he played on the varsity basketball team. He enjoyed playing and coaching basketball. He served in the U.S. Army, deployed to Korea, from October 1957 to June 1959; and his eyes lit up when he could talk about his “Army days”, even after his memory started to fade.
Ron was an accomplished engineer and worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company (US West Communications/Qwest Communications) where he retired in 1990. For 20 years, he designed and operated sound equipment for the Small World Entertainers, which took him to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Mainland China, and Japan. He was good with his hands and loved to build and remodel homes. He was proud of his yard and worked tirelessly to maintain a beautiful environment for his family.
He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in 1961 he married Rebecca (Becky) Marie Smart in the Salt Lake Temple. They welcomed four children into their home, and he went about teaching them to be responsible and work hard. He was a fun-loving grandpa, “Pops”, and he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed until we meet again.
Ron is survived by his wife, Becky; his four children: Teresa Kehl (Rob Karas), Alesa (John) Davis, Katrina (Chris) Stratford, and Ronald (Esther) Kehl; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lela Kehl; and his brother, William (Bill) Kehl.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview 1st LDS Ward, 2930 S. 2000 E., with a viewing at the church on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank the Community Nursing Services employees, especially his hospice nurse (Susan), his aide (John), and many neighbors, ward members, friends and family for sitting by his side.
