Obituary for Sheri Leas Donalson Friel

Sheri Leas Donalson Friel, our cherished wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother passed away due to heart failure following an extended illness on January 27, 2018 at the age of 73 years. She was surrounded by family at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT at the time of her passing.

Sheri was born on October 27, 1944 in Ogden, UT, the daughter of John Leas Donalson and Leone May Smith Donalson. Her father was a prisoner of war in Germany at the time of her birth and she was six months old at their first meeting.

Sheri grew up in Gaston, OR and attended Forest Grove High School. She married Charles Frederick Hudler (deceased), in Portland, OR in 1961. Together they had one child, Debra Leas Hudler Deatrick (Ted). This union resulted in two grandchildren, Charles and Mary Deatrick, of whom Sheri was exceptionally proud.

Sheri was married for a second time in 1974 to John Melvin Friel. Their 44-year union resulted in another beautiful daughter, Erin Kaylene Friel, born in 1985. After 41 years in California, and upon retirement, the Friel’s left their beautiful home of 30 years and numerous friends in Huntington Beach, CA. They headed to the mountains of Herriman, Utah to live near family.

Sheri’s working career was varied, took her from coast to coast and included time at Pepsi Cola in Corvallis, OR. and Blue Cross Blue Shield in Virginia Beach, VA. Most recently Sheri retired, after 35 years, as a broker for International Cargo Loss Prevention, Newport Beach, CA/Park City, UT. She leaves behind many cherished co-workers and lifelong friends.

Surviving family members include John Melvin Friel, Herriman, UT; Erin Kaylene Friel, Herriman, UT; Debra Leas Deatrick (Ted), Charles Deatrick and Mary Deatrick, Marietta, GA; John Darrell Donalson (Leoma), South Jordan, UT; Bradley Ray Donalson (Mona), Hillsboro, OR; Janis Leone Donalson McCorquindale (John), South Jordan, UT; as well as dozens of nieces and nephews whom she loved. They will all miss Aunt Sheri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service. Interment at Herriman City Cemetery.
