Thelma F. Morris Patton Obituary (1915 - 2018)

She was born December 2, 1915 to Roy and Edna Morris and raised by her Grandmother from age 3 after losing her mother to the national flu epidemic. She was the middle child and survived both Caroline, her older sister, and Gilbert, her younger brother. After graduating high school in Hamilton, MO., she held a civil service job before WWII in Washington, D.C., later moving to Spokane, Washington where her brother, Gilbert, was stationed in the Air Force, and where she found employment on base. She was a Red Cross Nurse Aide during WWII and later moved to Colorado Springs where she met her husband, H.R. Pat Patton. They were married in California where her daughter, Jeannie, was born. Pat finished college in Oklahoma; and they moved to Illinois where son, Roy, was born. Pat’s job took them to a dozen states over their lives. Active all her life, she held many positions with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and for 12 years taught crochet to young men at the Decker Lake Youth Detention Center. She was recognized by the Governor’s Office ”Points of Light” award for her service. She is survived by daughter, Jeannie; son, Roy and daughter-in-law Marion; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Loved by many and seeking to serve others her entire life, she will be dearly missed. Graveside services will be Friday, August 31, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Murray City Cemetery, 5490 S. Vine Street, Murray, Utah with a viewing for family and friends from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street.
