Obituary for Warren Joseph Wilson

Warren Joseph Wilson, 92, peacefully passed into eternity on June 2, 2018, “graduating from this mortal boarding school we call earth.” He made his debut on earth in Salt Lake City, Utah, on January 23, 1926, delighting his parents Joseph Smith Wilson and Fern Angeline (Ottley) Wilson. The family moved to San Diego, California when Warren was 8, and except for military and missionary service, he would call San Diego his home for the next 84 years.

Warren loved his country and served in the Army Air Corps in the closing months of World War II. After the war he served a mission to Brazil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and upon his return, while visiting Salt Lake City, he met and fell in love with Enid Mae Hansen. They married in the Salt Lake City temple on September 1, 1949 and settled in San Diego.

After several years in the hardware business, Warren went to school at San Diego State College, majoring in Liberal Arts and getting his teaching certificate. He taught elementary school for 3 years, then switched to teaching Spanish in junior high school for the next 20 years. After retirement he and Enid served three missions for the Church, including to the Canary Islands and to Portugal.

Warren was preceded in death by his faithful wife, and by their youngest daughter, Emily. He is survived by five children: Dorothy Burgi (Stan), of Midvale, Utah; Warren Joseph Jr (Janet Cole), of San Antonio, Texas; Stevan Ray (Linda Young), of Ogden, Utah; Rozann Thoelke (Steve), of Minnesota; and Frederick Conrad (Clair Young), of Boise, Idaho. His large posterity includes 27 loving grandchildren, 40 beautiful great-grandchildren, and 1 lovely great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister, LaRue Williams, of St. George, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
