Our beautiful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away May 29, 2013 with her husband and loving family by her side. Alice was born in Salt Lake City, February 21, 1929 to John and Enedina Paez. Alice is 4th in the family of 11 children.

She attended local schools and finished correspondent courses to pursue her passion in design, decorating and carpet sales. Alice had a 20-year career in Bountiful, Utah as a sales woman for "Henry's Carpets". In 1975, she opened her own business "Alicia's Distributing Company" where she became the first woman distributor for World Carpets. She was a dynamite sales woman winning trips, TV's, watches and pins from the competitive carpet companies. In 1991, Alice became Co-Owner and Vice President of Jackland Investment Corporation "The Old Salt Lake Produce Market", her renters knew her as "Ali" and she was admired and loved by all.

Alice married Derril Simpson of Veneta, Oregon in 1995, and together they developed land in that area. Alice maintained two beautiful homes, one in Bountiful, Utah and one in Veneta, Oregon. Ali's greatest joy was bragging about her grandchildren, their accomplishments were solely because of her inspiration and belief that they could do anything they put their mind to. Besides her love of people, she took care of all God's creatures, her doggies were her babies, as well as every stray dog in the neighborhood. She made friends with the backyard squirrels and they looked forward to the peanuts she took out every morning. Alice also cared for her neighbor, Jim, taking him a warm meal when he was sick and helping him in a system that forgets the non-insured and broken. If she ever won the lottery, she was going to get Jim a back operation. Mom once told me that if she could be anyone else, she would choose to be herself! She was one of a kind and there will never be another like her.

Alice is survived by her husband, Derril; daughter, Deborah (Shane) Myers; son, David Sparenberg; grandchildren, Eric Wing (Stacey Sampos, wife), Sean Wing, Amanda Johnson, Cassey Scoggin and Courtney Simpson; brother, John (Conswella) Paez; sisters, Lillie Young, Angela Bowden, Anita (Chuck) Hoffman, Ruth (Keith) Bowcut, Genevieve (Glen) Nygren and Nancy Blair; stepchildren, Terry Simpson, Cindy Simpson, Rick Simpson; niece, Quen (Bob) Cornutt, all Oregon, many nieces and nephews all who were of great importance to her.

Alice was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Paez Filson, Jenny Paez Smith; brother, Simon Paez; husbands, Francis E. Sparenberg
(25 yrs.), Leonard A. Jackson (12 yrs.); and stepson, Patrick Jackson.

The family would like to thank C.C. Harlow and her friend Brian for taking action in the Restaurant by calling 911. Also, Dr. Pingree for attempting his best to save her life, and his staff at St. Mark's Hospital.
