Lorraine passed away Sunday, June 22, 2013. She was born to Jeannette Whitehead and Spencer Harrison Peterson on November 13, 1917. The family lived in Eureka, Utah, Lorraine was 5 years of age when they moved to Salt Lake City. Lorraine married her sweetheart, Gordon Morgan Gill, in the Salt Lake Temple in 1937. She was a dedicated member of the LDS Church and an example of righteousness to all who knew her.
Lorraine possessed many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress; sewing school clothing for her daughters, handiwork for friends, doll clothing and detailed wedding dresses for all of her daughters.
Lorraine was a gifted ballroom dancer. She and daddy taught and performed ballroom dancing to multiple church groups. They choreographed and produced a stage act and an original Viennese waltz number for a June Conference LDS Church Dance Festival. They were often referred to as the "Ginger Rogers and Fred Astair" duo! Mom and dad enjoyed monthly dinners and various vacations with their "Acorn" dinner group as well as their study group. Lorraine was also a dedicated member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Lorraine was known for her candy making skills. Her pecan logs, divinity, english toffee and fudge were beyond comparison. Every holiday season, she gathered her daughters and granddaughters together for her annual candy-making session. This tradition is carried on today and cherished beyond words.
One of Lorraine's most impressive traits was her giving and selfless nature. She rarely bought anything for herself. Instead, she created whatever she needed from materials she already had. She was exceedingly generous with her children, loved ones, neighbors and friends. She gave tender care to her aged mother.
Survived by her children; Jeff Gill (Judy), Leslie Osborn (Barry), Kathy Kunz (Ric), Stephanie Carter (Grant) and Michelle Belcher (Dee); 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild. Preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Morgan Gill; brother, Boyden Peterson; sister, Helen Hooper Hicken.
Mom, we love you and miss you. Thank you for your example. The family extends special thanks to Heidi Peay and staff at Evergreen Residential Center for their kind, loving care.
