Obituary for Allison Ferguson Christensen

Allison Ferguson Christensen, 45, passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2019. She was the most amazing wife, mother, daughter, cousin, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Allie was born on October 14, 1973 to Alan Ferguson and Susan Burbank Ferguson at Cottonwood Hospital. She has two younger brothers, Tyler and Colby.

Allie had many interests and talents growing up. She started playing flute in junior high and took piano lessons for many years. She also loved ballet and reading.

During high school, Allie started working for Sound Off Records. It was there she met her husband Jay, although it would take eight years of dating before they finally married.

Allie was a force to be reckoned with. Although she was shy, she was also fiercely intelligent. After graduating from Murray High School, she attended the University of Utah on scholarship, completing her BS in chemical engineering. After working out in the west desert for a few years for companies like Safety Kleen and Clean Harbors, she traded the long drive for the flexibility of working at Marriott Vacation Club. Allie used her analytical mind and engineering background to successfully test and troubleshoot computer systems and web sites at Marriott and recently celebrated her 15th anniversary. She loved her job and especially her co-workers.

Allie liked nothing more than spending time with her family, whether that meant going to a movie or going on a cruise. Being together was the only requirement to having fun. Allie and her family travelled everywhere, thanks to her Marriott benefits and her husband’s SkyWest Airlines flight benefits. Travel highlights included trips to Paris, Aruba, Curacao, Disney Parks anywhere, Branson, Belize, Cancun, Cozumel, Honduras, Jamaica, New York, San Francisco, St. Louis, and Hawaii.

Allie was also a major University of Utah athletics supporter. She started when she was young, going to most of the men’s basketball games and cheering on players like Josh Grant, Jimmy Soto, Keith Van Horn, Andre Miller, and Michael Doleac. Later in life, she became a major “Red Rocks” Women’s Gymnastics supporter. She would travel around the country to cheer them on whether that was a regular season meet, regional, or NCAA Championship. Go Utes!!

Allie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had a great testimony of the gospel and was continuing to grow and strengthen her testimony. She took great pride in all of her callings, whether as a teacher or Cub Scout Master. As the ward librarian, Allie recently reorganized and indexed the entire ward library. Her organizational skills were amazing and will be missed.

Allie is survived by her husband Jay; daughter Sarah, 16; son Ryan, 13; parents Alan and Susan Ferguson; and brothers Tyler (Lauri) Ferguson and Colby (Jill) Ferguson. She is preceded in death by grandfathers Kenneth Ferguson and Daniel Burbank; and grandmother Dorothy Andrus Burbank.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the River Oaks 2nd Ward, 8825 South 1095 West, West Jordan, Utah, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. An additional viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, Utah on Friday, January 11th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South (Bengal Blvd.) Salt Lake City, Utah.
