Alton Lloyd Davis Obituary (1941 - 2019)

Gone Hunting! Alton Lloyd Davis peacefully passed away on October 23, 2019, in South Jordan, Utah. One of Alton’s favorite traditions was the annual deer hunt with his sons, brothers, uncles, and cousins. Nothing beat four-wheeling through muddy mountain roads in search of the big one! Alton treasured making memories with those he loved. From Lake Powell in the summer to ski trips in the winter, he enjoyed the outdoors with his family and friends. Trips to Alaska and New Zealand were especially memorable experiences. Alton was born March 8, 1941, in Provo, Utah, to George and Amy Davis. He graduated from Provo High in 1959. He served a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British Central Mission. While studying industrial engineering at BYU, Alton met the love of his life, Cheryl Pay. She sat in front of him in a religion class, and that’s where the romance began. On June 10, 1966, they married in the Salt Lake Temple and became eternal companions. After graduating, Alton landed a prestigious job with IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York. Because Cheryl longed to be near her parents, they eventually returned to Utah, where Alton worked for L-3 Communications for over 30 years. Alton was a true entrepreneur, craftsman, and ‘MacGyver’. He bought properties for investments, constructed apartments, and even built his wife’s dream home in South Jordan. Alton and Cheryl had 6 children. He taught his children to work hard and to get an education. Alton was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl, his daughter Kristine, his sister Beth (Ron), and his parents George and Amy Davis. He is survived by Steve (Dixie) Davis, Brett (Amy) Davis, Karen (Tim) Shipley, Renae (Scott) Christensen, and Sherrie (Chris) Fillmore. 25 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brothers Paul (Joyce) Davis, Brent (Nancy) Davis, Ryan Davis, and sister Elaine (Paul) Peterson. Alton’s family would like to give a special thanks to Dennis and Joan Norton, who have been lifelong friends. We would also like to thank all of Alton’s family and friends who came to support him. “We all deserve a brighter day, and Alton deserves to move on to a better place.”— Dennis Norton. We hope you enjoy it! Funeral services will be Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. in the River Ridge 3rd Ward Chapel, 1244 W 9700 S, South Jordan. Viewings are Friday 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley (1007 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan) and Saturday 9-10 a.m. at the church preceding the funeral services. The interment will take place after the service at Orem City Cemetery, Orem, Utah.
