Bryan Louis Carroll Obituary (1961 - 2019)

Bryan Louis Carroll, 58, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 of respiratory failure. He was happy to be in his home in Midvale, Utah with his loving wife by his side. Bryan was born on February 10, 1961 to Glenn and Carol Jean Carrroll. As a little boy, Bryan was as energetic and adventurous as they come. At the age of 18, his need for adventure led him to a cliff diving accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. But Bryan’s positive outlook and determination would not allow this new challenge to define his life. After six months in the hospital, he married his nurse, Nedra Hall, on March 5, 1980 for time and all eternity. Even without the use of his arms or his legs, nothing could stop him. He then graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Bryan is the father of two children and the grandfather of six grandchildren, with one on the way. His grandchildren loved to “help” Grandpa eat the treats from his secret stash and go for rides on his wheelchair. There was nothing Bryan enjoyed more than spending time with his family. Bryan worked for the Utah Center for Assistive Technology since its inception, more than 20 years ago. He also served as a board member for the Utah Independent Living Center for many years. While working as an Assistive Technology Specialist, being quadriplegic allowed him to relate to his disabled clients, as well as motivate them to live their lives to the fullest. Bryan Carroll was an inspiration to all around him by being an example of patience and determination. He never let his physical limitations get in the way of living a full and happy life. An engineer through and through, he never saw problems, only solutions waiting to be found. Bryan was welcomed Home by his father, Glenn, and his sisters: Glenda and Beverly. He is survived by his wife, Nedra. His mother, Carol Jean. His sisters Becky (Gary) Ellis, Brenda Sjoblom, and Jenn (Shawn) McIllece. His children Matthew (Stacy) Carroll and Miranda (Brad) Wagner. And his six grandchildren: Kalianna, Magdalyn, Daxton, Elaine, Kyler, and Thomas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Midvale East 4th ward, 87 East 7100 south in Midvale at 1:00 pm. There will be a viewing Friday, December 27, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the church, and Saturday morning from 11:45-12:45, prior to the services.
