C. Stan Derbidge Obituary (1937 - 2019)

Stan Derbidge, a kind, loving, and considerate man, passed away on September 4, 2019. Stan was born on September 7, 1937 to Clifford Donald and Esma Jane Stanley Derbidge in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had one older sister, Shirley Vigliotti, who predeceased him. He grew up loving life and with optimism for the future that is characteristic of many of his generation. Stan loved playing baseball as a young man and always had a mitt in his hand and had a great batting average. He attended Granite High School where he participated in athletics and served on the cheerleading team. Stan and Marlene grew up in the same neighborhood. But it was not until his sophomore year that he realized that she was going to be his eternal sweetheart. Stan enjoyed work and being productive. Shortly after graduating from high school, Stan hired on with Utah Power and Light. He was a journeyman lineman and served in many positions with the Power Company. He was one of those fortunate individuals who liked going to work and associating with his fellow employees. Stan retired from UP&L in 1987. Stan was a family man. Marlene and Stan are the parents of three children: Kristine (Todd) Stephens, Mountain Green; Kelly Derbidge (deceased); and Kate (Troy) Young, Tooele. They are the grandparents of Brandon, Tina, Kowen, Janifer, Brady, Hobie, J.D., and Dallas. They also have 17 great-grandchildren. For Stan and Marlene vacations were spent with family, fishing, boating, camping, golfing, and snowmobiling. He loved the Utah Jazz and BYU ballgames. Their home is the hub for all family gatherings. Stan was a good neighbor. He was always willing to lend a helping and helpful hand. For many years the Derbidges, along with the other residents of Silver Bell Street, would stage an epic Christmas light display that would draw many spectators from throughout the area. Stan loved the Lord. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. For the past 19 years Stan and Marlene have faithfully served as members of the Murray Hospital Branch, first at the Cottonwood Hospital and now at the IMC Hospital. As members of the Hospital Branch, Stan and Marlene would help with the spiritual and emotional needs of the patients receiving medical treatment there. Stan had been sick for many years. As his health declined, he received the professional care from numerous doctors and other medical personnel. But the greatest care that Stan received was from the constant, loving attention that he received from his sweetheart, Marlene. The family acknowledges that Mom’s selfless and unsurpassed care bought Dad several additional enjoyable years of life. Funeral services for Stan will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Little Cottonwood 18th Ward, 6410 South 725 East, Murray. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
