Carl Gustave Peterson

104

Carl Gustave Peterson died peacefully March 2, 2006 at the home of his son Carl Dean Peterson in Duchesne, Utah. Gus was born August 1, 1901 in Granger, Utah to Carl Oscar and Anna Clara Anderson Peterson, but the family soon moved to Murray, Utah. The home was located just south of Murray High School. Gus married Ina Mary Hawthorne Mulvey December 6, 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. Gus and Ina moved to Casto Lane in Holladay, Utah where he resided for almost 70 years. Gus was able to live in his own home until he was 104.

Gus loved his family, his grandchildren, hard work, art, pets, gardening and cars. He was a loving and devoted father to Carl Dean Peterson (Pamela) and Marilyn Joy Peterson Poulson and seven grandchildren Sondra Peterson Nielson (Kenneth, Scott Carl Peterson (Leslie), Anna Lee Peterson Brown (Darrin), Arlo Marsh Poulson III (Laurie), Peter Devin Poulson (Rebekah), Carl Brett Poulson (RaChelle) and Matthew Dean Poulson. He had 27 Great Grandchildren.

Gus was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong testimony and was faithful throughout his life.

As a very young man Gus would hop on a bicycle with his dad, a ladder and wallpaper supplies to go hang wallpaper. When Gus was 9 his Dad left on a mission to Sweden. Gus became the breadwinner for the family. He discovered that he liked hard work better than schoolwork. At the age of 20 Gus began working for the Interstate Brick Company as a Kiln Placer putting bricks into the kiln. He retired in 1966 after 45 years of service. He continued working part-time for the Brickyard until 1971.

His family liked to call him the “Energizer Bunny” because he just kept going and going. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He took his first airplane ride at the age of 95.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ina, his parents, two sisters Blenda Linnea Durrant and Anna Victoria Peterson, a son-in-law A. Marsh Poulson, Jr., one grandchild Jody Dean Peterson and three great grandchildren.

Thanks so much to Hospice and Home Health, especially his nurse Becky, who helped comfort the family during the last few months of Gus’ life.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the Holladay 8th Ward, 5450 South Holladay Boulevard at 11 A.M. A viewing will be held at the ward one hour prior to the service and Monday evening, March 6, 2006 at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street from 6-8 P.M. Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
