Carl Robert Worlund Obituary (1922 - 2016)

Carl Robert Worlund, 94, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016, in Salt Lake County, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 12, 1922. His parents were Fin-Swedes who immigrated to the United States from Finland. Father Jacob Worlund. Mother Selma Johanna Ohls. Carl spent his youth in Murray, Utah, swimming and fishing in the Jordan River. While attending Murray High School, he met his sweetheart, Verda Alois Jacobson. They were married January 17, 1948 in the LDS Temple in Laie, Hawaii. Carl served in the U S Marine Corp during WWII in the Pacific. After the war, he served in Marine Intelligence in China. After a brief pause at chicken farming, Carl enlisted in the United States Army. Upon retirement, he went back to college to obtain his Master's degree. He became a school teacher, teaching in Granite School District and then Murray School District. He also served as a safety commissioner for Murray City. He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; and by his wife, Verda. Survivors: daughter, Carla W Olsen; grandsons, Bryan G Olsen (Bethany Mohlman), Christopher J Olsen (Crystal Wilson), Jason D Olsen; great-grandchildren, Nathan T Olsen, Hannah I Olsen, Jacob B Olsen and Aubree Wilson. Carl spent his life serving his country, his neighborhood, his city and his church.
