Carol Hintze Jackman Obituary (1934 - 2021)

Carol Hintze Jackman of South Jordan, Utah passed away Saturday, July 31st peacefully surrounded by family. She lived in her South Jordan home until the last couple of weeks of her mortal life. Carol was born on May 24, 1934, to Leslie Teancum Hintze Sr. and Audra Elizabeth Call in Holladay, Utah. She was married to Dean Neldon Jackman on September 4, 1953, in the Salt Lake City Temple. As a youth she was very athletic, during elementary school she could outrun the boys in a race. She was a great softball player up through her early married life. She was an avid bowler and many years participated in a bowling league, with a very high average. She was a member of a high-school group of friends, they called “club”. It was originally started with 19 high-school girls who were classmates; they still periodically meet today, 69-years later. When she married, she worked as a bank messenger, bookkeeper, and teller while Dean earned his bachelor and then master’s degrees. She meticulously balanced her checkbook and managed the family financing for most of their married lives together. She made custom drapes for many years in her parents’ home drapery business, running every aspect of the business. Without her, the drapery business would have gone defunct many years before. Carol was a “mom” (and grandma)! She raised four children, that were “all hers”, but she was “mom” to many! She would feed a delicious homemade meal to anyone who happened to be at her house. She was a great cook. She was famous for saying, “if you leave my house hungry, it’s your own fault!” She learned expert pie making from her mother and perfected the art in her own home; people would ask her to make them pies. A pie was often her way of saying thank you to someone for helping her or her family. She passed this pie making skill on to children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and canning/freezing fruit and vegetables from her home garden and orchard. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the Church. Some of her favorites were stake girls camp leader (it was initially called stake wilderness specialist, and she served for more than a decade), Blazer scout leader, and a temple worker in the Jordan River temple. She uniquely served in many other callings. She served a full-time mission, with Dean, in Mendoza Argentina. She learned some Spanish words and phrases but relied mostly on hand gestures, love and cooking or baking to communicate. She became the mission mom to many young missionaries! She is survived by her four children: David Jackman (Lisa Whorton), Daniel Jackman, Drew Jackman (Merri-Lu), and Heather Mousley (Ron), 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by a younger sister and brother. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean—who was the love of her life, her parents, and her twin brother. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. Viewings will be on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment at South Jordan City Cemetery.
