Cathryn Call Kirkham Obituary (1942 - 2015)

Cathryn Call Kirkham, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living of Sandy, Utah of Alzheimer's disease. She was born August 1, 1942, in Rochester, Minnesota, with her twin sister, to Everett Hale Call and Louise Hulme Madsen. After her mother's death in 1949, she was raised by her second mother, Anne DeYoung Call. She graduated from Olympus High School and the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Richard N. Kirkham on June 17, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and influenced many with her loving concern and effective teaching in her callings, including Junior Sunday School president, Primary teacher, Young Women teacher, Stake Relief Society president, Young Single Adult leader, and Cub Scout Den Mother to her two boys and their friends. She will be remembered for her warm, friendly smile and her enthusiasm for all that she did. Cathryn loved to work. She was a terrific typist and could take shorthand before it became a dying art. She took pride in her career at large corporations in Minneapolis, including General Mills, Honeywell, and Snyder Drug. She served a mission with her husband in Berlin, Germany, where people loved to attend Family Home Evening and enjoy her homemade chili. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, sensitivity to others, love for her children and grandchildren, happy disposition, and fearless courage in meeting the challenges of life. Cathryn is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Kristin Lyman (Greg), Houston, TX; Karen Kirkham, Salt Lake City, UT; Sharon Cliff (John), Dallas, TX; Jonathan Kirkham (Mirjam), Minneapolis, MN; Benjamin Kirkham (Jenne), St. Paul, MN; 13 grandchildren; twin sister, Carolyn Housley (Mervin); sister Cindy Shotorbani (Nasser); brothers Richard Call (Marilyn); and Craig Call (Gwen), Salt Lake City, UT; and Robert Call, Moab, UT. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Madsen Call, sister, LouAnn Call Wilson, and parents, Everett and Anne DeYoung Call. Viewings and the funeral service will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (106th South), South Jordan, Utah. Viewings will be on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm and Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:30 am. The service will be Tuesday, November 24 at 11:00 am MST in South Jordan and simultaneously webcast in Minnesota at the LDS church in Brooklyn Park, 4700 Edenbrook Terrace (86th & Noble Ave.), at 12:00 noon CST.
