Cathryn "Kay" Jane Porter Miller Obituary (1925 - 2010)

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming, ‘Wow, what a ride!”Cathryn Jane Porter Miller, beloved wife, mother of four, grand-mother of five, and great-grandmother of eight, 84, passed away on January 23, 2010 at her home due to complications of Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and age.She is the second daughter born to DeWitt Porter and Mary LaVerne Darke on August 29, 1925-her mother’s birthday. She married David Earl Miller of Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 30, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah.She is survived by her husband of 63 years, her children David Jr. (SusieDee), Mark (Jan), and Nancy Forman (Carl ‘Rocky’), grand-children, and great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Jean Laxman, and JoAnn Thalman, infant son; Matthew John.Mom dedicated her life to loving her family and rearing her children. She will be remembered for her homemade rolls and the world’s best pie crusts. In her active years you could just as likely find her bowling or golfing with her friends as preparing holiday and family feasts. In her middle years she was known as the sexiest grandma in tights at her aerobics classes. No one took more pride in her flower gardens than Mom. A classy lady, she had a hard fast rule to always put on make-up and do her hair before Dad came home each day.In their retirement years, she and Dad traveled the western United States, Alaska, and Mexico fishing, golfing, and sight-seeing from their RV. Together they left no stone unturned, no pathway not taken, no stream not forged, no adventure undiscovered.We extend our love and thanks to Kami, Nicole, Kelly, Stephanie, and Joan of Hospice for Utah for their tender and loving care of Mom and Dad during the past three years.Graveside services will be held at 11:30 on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 At Murray City Cemetery. There will be a visitation 10-11am prior to services at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary (4760 S. State Street, Murray. UT).
