Charlene "Charly" Johnson Weaver Obituary (1933 - 2020)

Charlene Weaver, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2020 at the age of 86. Born November 17, 1933 in Mantua, Utah, she was the 7th child of Marina Perkins & Ernest E. Johnson. Charlene’s mother passed away 6 weeks after her birth. Her aunt, Rose Johnson, from Brigham City, Utah, raised and cared for her as a child. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1952. She married the love of her life, Delbert John Weaver, in the Logan Temple on August 1, 1952. They celebrated 46 years together before his passing in 1998 and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. Charlene loved to sing and was known for her beautiful voice. She played the piano, sang in a quartet and loved participating in the ward choir. She was a beautiful homemaker who was known for her Brownie Cake and the coveted Potato Salad. She worked at Darr’s Hallmark and shares a beautiful collection of Precious Moments and Ty Beanie Babies. She was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz and loved to watch football. (if you wanted to talk to Grandma, don’t call while the Utah Jazz were playing.) She was exceptionally witty, sharp as a tack and possessed the most wonderful sense of humor. People were drawn to her as she radiated so much love and kindness. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held many church callings, and served missions in the LDS Conference Center and in Palmyra, New York. Survived by her children, Debbie Weaver Romero (Tom) and Kevin Delbert Weaver (Terri), as well as 7 grandchildren and 20 great -grandchildren. She is preceded in the death by her parents; Aunt Rose (her mom); husband, Delbert; three sisters; and granddaughter, Rochelle. We wish to thank Charlene’s neighborhood/ward family who made endless visits and made sure she never ran out of her favorite treats, especially the Decaffeinated Diet Coke she loved so much. We also wish to express our deepest appreciation to Legacy Village Rehabilitation for the care and ensuring Charlene was comfortable and like she was at home. We are deeply grateful for the love and compassion shown to her. Services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Penny Cove LDS Chapel, 606 Mansfield Ave. (3115 So.), Salt Lake City, Utah. Viewings will be held at the same LDS Chapel on Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Murray City Cemetery, under the direction of Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home.
