Cherry Marie Dumas Obituary (1977 - 2016)

Cherry, our beloved daughter, aunt and friend, 39 years old, died after a long and difficult battle of ill health including and not limited to: diabetes, heart & kidney disease, and more than a score of other conditions, including vision-reduction the last few months of her life. To make her life even harder: bone-on-bone-arthritis in her knees; hips & shoulders with other bone conditions that had her mobility almost exclusively in a power wheelchair. Between all of this, as well as high blood sugars in which Bryan resuscitated her—resulting in a 9-day coma in February of 2014. Cherry also had 2 heart failures, and she had 3 stents placed and a triple coronary artery bypass, among other hospitalizations and procedures. She spent the last 29 months living full-time at Highland Care Center in Holladay, UT Cherry was a talented author, having 1 book published: Judgment at Witches Court through Mundania Press. She almost had a second one published as well, but at the editor-suggested edits stage, was when her brain shrunk in February of 2012 from high blood sugars, resulting in an inability to read or write for more than a few sentences without abruptly nodding off. In April of 2015, Cherry discovered a talent for drawing when she had to be in isolation. The following month in May of 2015 she found a great talent for painting. Many people told her she could sell her paintings. She chose to paint for others for free. She often commented that she was given the ability to paint to express her creativity since writing was taken away. One of her coping mechanisms for her continued life was Pam's spirit—being very close to Cherry's side, giving her strength, comfort and love; as well as all of the people who became her friends and substitute family: including Tavia, Mike, Paloma, Amanda, Angela, Julene, Grace, Kent, Angie, Kathleen, Greg, Maggie Beers, Carol, and many others. Cherry's family offers their most sincere gratitude for everything all of you have done for her. Survived by her father, Lynn Keith (Kacy) Dumas; two older brothers: Bryan Keith (Marlo) Dumas and Brad H. (Marline) Dumas; Twin-Soul Sister/Best Friend, Sera "Adelfi" Posthumus; and Self-chosen Godparents, Ann & Larry Washburn. Preceded in death by her loving Mother, best friend & ferocious advocate: Pamela Sue Dumas. Per Cherry's request, she will be cremated without any viewing or funeral. In lieu of flowers to the family, Cherry's family requests that flowers be given to Highland Care Center's Med 5 Departments staff and/or residents and/or donations to the Activities Department for future activities and supplies. A memorial will be held in the future. Her family also asks that you give your loved ones your love, support and empathy to each individual need, never taking each other for granted, and remember, always be true to who you are.
