Chrysanne Ruth Carroll Newman Obituary (1951 - 2019)

Chrys , beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and lifelong friend, passed away peacefully in her home on September 3, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Provo, UT to James Orville Carroll and Isabell Faye Hales Carroll. She is preceded in death and welcomed with open arms by her daughter, Karalee; parents, James Orville and Isabell Faye Hales Carroll; siblings, Barry and Victoria Carroll; son-in-law, Michael Fowler; and many other extended family members. Chrys grew up in Murray with her siblings, Sunny, Barry, David, and Jerri. She graduated from Murray High in 1969 which was “so fine” because she got to be “Barry’s sister”! In August of 1969 she married her best friend, Roy Lawrence Newman, and they spent 50 years together, which was celebrated with a perfect party in their honor last month. Together they had 8 Children: Kristina (Jay Fowles), Sean (Massiel), Richard, Karalee, Garrett (Heather), Jenniece , Mary , and Breeanne (Brandon O’Suileabhain); and 8 grandchildren: Dominik, Devon & Amy Fowler; Sean Carlo Newman; Marijane & Jerimiah Whitaker, Lousie Mellen; Damien O’Suileabhain; and 2 fur babies, Sadie & Togepi. Chrys and Roy spent most of their lives in Utah but during Roy’s military service they moved with their first two children to Abilene, TX in 1972 where Rick was later born and then eventually, made their way back to Utah to be close to family. They owned West High Bakery for many years. She spent time as a data entry clerk for ZCMI Distribution center, studied at the U of U, and finally retired from the Utah State Tax Commission after 27+ years of service as a Business Analyst in 2016. Chrysanne’s passion was knitting and she was extremely talented at it. She spent many hours of her life creating the most beautiful things for herself and others. We believe it was connected deep in her soul and she demonstrated her love for everyone through her knitting. It was rare to find her without a set of needles in her hands. They went everywhere with her and so did the art for the heart that she made. Whether she was knitting a baby blanket for a new one on the way or a hat and scarf for someone that may come unexpectedly at Christmas she was always prepared and sharing her talent with others. During her chemotherapy she proudly wore a beautiful variety of the hats she had made and shared them with Huntsman. Chrys loved many things. Family and travel were two of her greatest loves, and traveling with family and friends or anyone else who wanted to tag along was even better. She shared her love of cooking, crafts, gardening and family game night, a tradition that had carried many generations with her family. She loved Scrabble, collecting dolls, reading novels, amusement park rides, ice cream, crime shows and being able to read, watch or solve any mystery. She was also very passionate about being right regarding memories… regardless of the contradictory consensus, and we thank her father for giving her that passion! She loved her family with all of her being even through the hard times. Chrys experienced many unexpected trials in her life but she always had a way of facing them with strength and love. She truly “lived” every moment to her last, enjoying her family and friends the whole way. She refused to give up and wanted every moment of her life that she owned to count. She went out of her way to tell everyone how much she loved them and was absolutely inspiring to all around her in what you should bring to life when faced with a challenge so great. Her family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Kathy Shepherd for her support during her battle with cancer. They would also like to extend their thanks for the compassion of the doctors, nurses and staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute as well as the nurses at Huntsman Hospice Services. A special thanks to nurses Amber Jones and Jon Boss whom were able to have the most perfect timing to support family in their time of need. She leaves behind a family grieving her passing but anchored by her memory, and resilient in her honor of the battle with cancer that she so courageously fought and won. To own your life to the fullest no matter what obstacle is in front of you is triumph, and she was a beautiful example for us all. Chrys would like you all to know that her business here is done and that she is on to another amazing adventure with loved ones she has not seen in a lifetime, so celebrating her life is in order. Viewings will be on Sunday, Sept 8, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, September 9th from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah. Interment to follow at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT 84065. Donations are being accepted in lieu of flowers.
