Cyril (Cy) E. Simon Obituary (1945 - 2013)

Cyril Ellery Simon passed away on August 21, 2013 after an 18-month struggle with brain cancer. He was born on August 19, 1945 in Los Angeles, California to Cyril Lionel Simon and Reta Wight Simon. He grew up in Southern California where he participated and excelled at swimming and water polo. After one year at Long Beach State, he served an LDS mission in the West Central States Mission. Upon his return, he completed his education at BYU receiving a degree in Economics. On August 16, 1968 he was sealed to his wife Mae Lanier in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 45 years. Cy's career involved many facets of the real estate industry. He worked in sales and real estate development, as a general contractor, and later in mortgage and commercial lending. Cy was a dedicated and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day–Saints. He served in many callings over the years, but always considered his stewardship as a home teacher to be of the upmost importance. Most of all, Cy was a completely devoted husband and father. His constant love and care for his wife and children was his defining characteristic. He will be dearly missed. Cy is survived by his wife and three children: Krista Peterson (Brennan), Melissa Murdock (Jason), and Garrett Simon (Nicole), his ten grandchildren: Tanner, Gabriella, Nicholas, Maci, Delaney, Dylan, Sophia, Makenzie, Jordan, Elicia (Matt) and great grandchild Penelope. Preceded in death by his mother. We wish to express deep appreciation to the dedicated caregivers at Symbii Hospice, and to neighbors, friends and family for all their love and kindness. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the West Jordan Mt. View Stake Center, 2901 West 9000 South A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. So. Jordan Pkwy (10600 So.) and on Tuesday from 11:00-11:45 am prior to services at the church. Interment at South Jordan City Cemetery.
