Darlton "Bud" Kimes Stickley Obituary (1928 - 2006)

Bud was born in Burlington, West Virginia to Ray and Eva (Shoemaker) Stickley. He graduated from Keyser High School, Potomac State College, and West Virginia University with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1949. He was a lifetime member of the WVU booster club. He died of complications of Cancer. Married Constance Durst Stickley, later divorced. He WAS a Rocket Scientist. Employed by Hercules Aerospace for 30 years, during the Cold War, he was a member of the teams that designed the Poseidon, Polaris, and Trident, submarine launched Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. This work brought him to Utah from West Virginia’s, Allegheny Ballistic Laboratory, in 1963. Bud enjoyed fishing, golf, tennis, and shooting pool, before he became disabled by cancer and back problems. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother’s, Toby and Lawrence, and his sister Margaret. Survived by his sister Genevieve (Don) Hartman, Keyser, West Virginia; Brother Bob (Janet) Stickley, Burlington, West Virginia; Son, Jeff (Debra) Stickley, Murray, Utah; and grandchildren, Meagan and Daniel, also of Murray. A viewing will be held at the Jenkins Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street on Tuesday, September 12, friends my call from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be at Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney, West Virginia at a later date. Many thanks to the staff at, Canyon Creek Assisted Living, for their care and concern. They did a wonderful job, even when Dad was hard to be around. And thanks to the staff of Life Path Hospice for making Dad as comfortable as possible in his final days.
