Darrell Eugene Reeves Obituary (1918 - 2009)

Darrell Eugene Reeves, age 90, died at home on 21 March 2009. Born 19 September 1918 in Brigham City, Utah, the 7th of 10 children of Charles and Nellie Hurst Reeves. Graduated from Box Elder High School, 1936. Married LaRue Hawkins 29 June 1942 in the Logan Temple. Served in World War II in Italy with 10th Mtn. Division. Graduated from Utah State (USAC) in dairy manufacturing. Worked for Bluebird Ice Cream Co.; Glen Hogan, Rosehill, HiLand, and Al Harris dairies; Fros-T-Dog Co.; and as milk plant manager and bookkeeper at LDS Church’s Welfare Square, 1966-1988. Served in church as president of Mechanicsburg Branch (PA), counselor to two bishops in Central Park Ward (SLC), clerk, high councilman, and temple worker. Hobbies included bowling, watching sports, and circling the block while LaRue shopped at Auerbach’s. He was meek and had a wonderful sense of humor. Preceded in death by his wife, most of his siblings, and a grandson, Steve Reeves. Survived by sisters Beth (Watkins) and Vaudis (Smith); children Ronald (Sue), Sharon (Neil Cornia), David (Judy), and Brian (Ilean); 23 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be Monday, 23 March, 6-8 p.m., Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S.); also Tuesday, 24 March, one hour prior to services, which will be held 11 a.m. at Riverton Summerhill Stake center 12120 S. 1300 West. Interment at Logan City Cemetery at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations to humanitarian fund of the LDS Church.
