David Wayne Evans, Jr. Obituary (1948 - 2013)

David Wayne Evans Jr., 64 of West Jordan Utah passed away surrounded by his family on June 16th 2013. He was diagnosed with cancer just a few short weeks ago, and he fought it every step of the way. He loved his family, God, racing cars, and the University of Utah. He was passionate about all his loves and we will miss the energy and dedication he put into his life interests. Dave was born on November 11, 1948 in Kansas City MO. His parents were David Wayne Evans Sr. and Beatrice Evans who both preceded him in death. He graduated from the University of Utah and shortly after married his sweetheart, Paulette Evans in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14th, 1973. Dave worked with Salt Lake County Assessor's office for 30 years, and then retired to pursue his other hobbies. Dave and Paulette were able to serve two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, one inner city and another working with the youth. At the time of his passing he was working at the Jordan River Temple as a veil worker. Things we'll miss about him: How much he loved his kids. So much of his life was spent coaching and playing with his kids and he put off his own hobbies for many years because he spent so much time with his kids. His obsession with cars; whether he was at the track, driving his corvette or judging them, he loved cars. His love for the University of Utah, a Utah man is he. You'd always find Dave at every Ute Basketball game and most football games. Bringing his kids and grandkids to all the games are some of our fondest memories. Being spoiled rotten! Boy did Dave know how to spend money….…..mostly on us. He always gave gifts to his family and especially his wife that we'd never buy for ourselves. Say Cheese! Not far from Dave you'd most likely always find his camera. He loved taking pictures of everything and then spending hours editing them and displaying them all around the house. And though there will be no more golf trips with friends, visits to his daughter in Florida, heading out to the shooting range, matinée movies with his wife, lunch dates with his grandkids, throwing tool parties, overlong home teaching visits, racing around in his corvette, working at the Larry H Miller track, adventures with his sister in Louisiana, working at the temple, watching sports on T.V, watching sports on T.V, did we mention watching sports on T.V; we have a million plus one memories of him doing exactly what he loves and sharing those loves with us. We can't wait to see you again! He is survived by his wife Paulette Ann Evans, children Windy DeVroom (Jason), Melissa Martineau (Dave) and David Evans (Mariette), grandchildren, Haylee Hicks, Emmie Hicks, Jaxon Evans, Simon Martineau, Olivia Martineau, Mercede Evans, Taya DeVroom and Jayden DeVroom, sister Gloria Haskin. The viewing will be held on Thursday, June 20th from 6-8p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway. An additional viewing will precede the service on Friday, June 21st from 9:30-10:30a.m. This will be held at the LDS Chapel located on 7511 South 2700 West.
