Dean Shelton Olson Obituary (1930 - 2021)

Click HERE to view Funeral Services for Dean Olson A great, great loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his home on Easter morning. Dean started his life long journey on March 22, 1930 in Union, Utah. He was the youngest of four brothers and one sister. He graduated from Jordan High School. Dean met his wife LaDean while he was working at Swains Service Station in Bennion, Utah. LaDean went to Swains to get gas every day so that Dean would have to fill up her car. They married not long after they met and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised their nine children in a home that he built. He was a hard worker and a man of many trades. He was also a very good provider. He spent many years working as a long-haul truck driver. Dean knew every road and byway in this country. At every mile marker, he had a story to tell. Some of these include crossing picket lines in the 60’s, watching racial riots in the 70’s, helping strangers along their way, gathering treasures, and witnessing many exciting and tragic events. Dean loved meeting new people and had the ability to socialize with anyone. He had a way of making everyone feel like his best friend or favorite grandchild. All were loved and welcomed into his home. He had many dogs over the years and they were the love of his life. Dean had a love for the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the gun club. After he retired, he took up cycling. He would ride up to 20 miles a day. He would ride anywhere from Little Cottonwood Canyon to Cedar Fort. His favorite thing to do was take his family boating. We spent many years at Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, Bear Lake, and Yellowstone. He passed on his love for the outdoors to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In his later years, he enjoyed playing bingo with his relatives. He is preceded in death by his son, Randy Olson, his parents Eva and Oluf Olson, and his five siblings. He is survived by his children Gayle Evans, Trena Terry, Renae (Von) Young, Connie Strang, Kenny (Lori) Olson, Lori (Doug) Hill, Kevin (Monica) Olson, and Clint Olson and by his precious and most loved twenty five grandchildren and forty seven great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by each and every one of them. Services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at River Ridge Stake Center, 10168 South 1000 West, South Jordan, Utah. The viewing will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, with the funeral services following at 1:00 pm. The burial will be at Redwood Memorial Estates at 4:00 pm. Thank you for all of your love and support.
