Delbert Ray Penman Obituary (1933 - 2016)

3/19/33 ~ 12/27/16 Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Delbert Ray Penman, 83, returned to heaven on December 27, 2016 at his home in Murray, Utah. He was the youngest of seven children. Delbert was born in Granger, Utah to John A. Penman and Hildred B. Penman. He married Bonnie E. Birch in her parents' garden on June 26, 1958 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 2, 1966. Delbert graduated from South High and obtained a Bachelor's degree in business from the U of U. He also earned a degree in architecture, later in his life. Delbert was drafted into the Army in 1956 during the Korean War and served as a clerk at the Pentagon. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Del worked for Firestone Tire Co., Purcell and Pearson Tire and later worked at Sutherland's during his retirement years. He was a member of the LDS church and served as the ward clerk for many years. An avid outdoorsman, Delbert loved camping, skiing, boating, hunting and driving dune buggies with his wife and family. He loved beautiful classic cars. He enjoyed time in his shed woodworking and always had a fixer-upper project. Delbert was an artist and a poet, a soft spoken, kind and generous man, and taught his family the art of sarcasm. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; 4 children: Mike, Lynn, DeAnna (Jeff) Christensen, Lori (Jens) Christensen; 7 grandchildren: Dustin (Maryann), Josh (Appuls), Teaira, Alexis, A.J., Aidan and Alex; 5 great-grandchildren; Lia Jo, Eleanor, Carson, Quentin, Rowan, Bridger (deceased). Dad –Thank you for your love and guidance. You will always be a part of our lives and forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald E. Brown, Dr. Robert S. Powell and Inspiration Hospice for their love and care. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State St., Murray UT 84107, with viewings on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment: Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 S.
