Della Mae Nelson Obituary (1935 - 2014)

Della Mae Nelson, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away September 19, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. Della Mae was born October 5, 1935 in Spring Lake, Utah to Reuben Elmer Mower and Della Butler Mower. She was the oldest of four children. She married Ronald Dee Nelson in 1953 in the Manti Utah Temple; they were later divorced. Della Mae's greatest joys came from being a mother, grandmother, and friend. She cherished and enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and dedicated her life to serving her children and grandchildren. Della Mae had a talent for loving unconditionally and making those around her feel they were the most important people in the world. Della Mae had a little bit of spunk and was always up for an adventure and/or a good laugh. She would go out of her way to be a part of her children's and grandchildren's lives. She was selfless and was always thinking of the needs of others. Della Mae was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep testimony of the Savior and of His hand in her life. She served in the Church in many capacities, including in Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, Scouts, and as the ward librarian. Della Mae had a love for missionary work and a testimony of the blessings that come from contributing to missionaries; she always found a way to help support a missionary. She loved the temple and fondly spoke of the years she served as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple. Della Mae was a master at hand quilting and needlepoint. She put hours and hours of time into making quilts, baby blankets, etc. Her children and grandchildren were all recipients of her beautiful work. Della Mae worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until she retired and loved her time there. Della Mae is survived by her eight children: Jeff (Diane), Stuart (Kelly Jo), Kristine (Don Tucholski), Susan (Randy Holbrook), Ruth (Mont Cooper), Perry (Lori), Burke (Brenda), Jessie (John Carroll), 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and siblings Jim Mower (ShinJa), Mary Bahr (Carl) and sister-in-law Donna Mower. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother Lamar. A viewing will be held for Della Mae on Saturday, September 27th from 10:00–11:30 a.m. at the LDS Church meetinghouse on 6350 South Rodeo Lane (1540 East) in Murray, Utah. A funeral service will follow the viewing at 12:00 in the same building. Interment Elysian Burial Gardens.
