Doctor "Doc" Boyce Bell, Jr. Obituary (1925 - 2018)

Doctor (Doc) Boyce Bell, Jr. went to be with his loving wife on November 14th, 2018, one day after his 93rd birthday. Doc was born in Lockesburg, AR, on November 13, 1925 to Doctor Boyce and Lillie Bell. He was born into a large loving family who he spoke of often. He was a great storyteller, regaling anyone who would listen, with stories of growing up in the country. Doc never met a stranger and could carry on a conversation with anyone he encountered. Doc did not have any particular hobbies except people watching. Anyone who knew him could count that he would be sitting in front of the house waving at passing cars and people. He had a number of favorite funny phrases he would say. One in particular he used often when someone looked as if they wanted some of what he was eating was, “Your eyes may sparkle, your teeth may grit, but none of this you gonna get”. This was one of many, but seems to be the favorite. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy serving two years and was honorably discharged in 1946. Wilma and Doc were married in 1952 and shortly moved to Salt Lake City where they both lived until their deaths. He served as a deacon at The Point Church, formerly known as, New Pilgrim Baptist, for a number of years and remained a member until his passing. Doctor is survived by his four children: Eva Bell of Beaumont, CA; Deborah Bell of Murray, UT; Larry Bell of Murray, UT; Arletha Guerra of Murfreesboro, AR. He was blessed to have a number of great grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and sister, Willie Bea Neal, who he referred to as #4 due to their birth order. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Bell, and numerous other family members and friends. A Funeral Service to celebrate the life and memory of Doctor Bell will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018, at The Point Church, 5133 Heath Ave, Kearns, UT, 84118. The viewing will begin at 10:00 am until 11:00 am—the service will immediately follow. Pastor Corey Hodges will officiate.
