Dominick Rocca Motta Obituary (1929 - 2015)

Dominick R. Motta passed away peacefully November 28, 2015. He was born August 16, 1929 to Steve C. Motta and Angela Veronica Rocca Motta. He graduated from Granite High School in 1947. He served in the US Army Signal Corp from 1951 to 1954. He loved traveling, golfing, watching sports, playing bridge, gardening and spending time at his home at Bear Lake. Dominick married Mary Lou Schumaker June 19, 1954. She passed away November 17, 1990. He married Judy Winder Nelson February 19, 1993. She passed away June 2, 1999. Dominick is survived by daughters Julie (Noall) Knighton, Laurie (Joey) Eccleston, and Amy Motta, grandsons Eric Knighton, Alex Knighton, and Connor Eccleston, sister Elma Uzelac, sister-in-law Georgia Motta and long time companion Beverly Gay. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Ambrose "Breeze" Motta. He operated Motta Brothers Produce in Layton with his brother Breeze until his retirement in 1992. He was a successful commercial vegetable grower for more than 40 years. He shared his produce generously with friends and neighbors. Dominick was an outstanding example of a life well lived. He was proud of his Italian heritage. He worked hard and was a man of high integrity and character. He was kind and generous with words and service. He enjoyed the friendships he developed through the many social groups he enlivened. Dad loved his family and enjoyed spending time together with us. Friends may visit family Thursday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 South State Street, Murray. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 4th at 10:30 am at his parish of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic church at 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Internment at Lindquist Layton Cemetery at 1867 N. Fairfield Road on Friday, December 4th at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent's dePaul Parish School 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City, UT 84117. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
