Our Mom Donna was born in California on May 8, 1935 to Nick and Sarah Golish. Although her roots were strongly embedded in Bingham Canyon where she was raised with her sisters Kellie and Jan along with her brother Nick. She had fond memories of her childhood and loved sharing in detail her life and events during those times.
But her young life had its share of hardships. She became a mother at a very young age and had 4 children that she raised alone on a waitress wage and tips. Mom always did the best she could while playing both parent roles. Of course, sometimes we made it more difficult for her because at some point we all gave her some grief but she truly loved us in spite of it. We can't imagine how hard it must have been for her.
Midway through her own life, she turned everything around. She became confident in herself and decided to finish her education. While working, she went back to school and obtained her LPN nursing degree which was something she always wanted to do. She started her nursing career working at Holy Cross Hospital in the nursery of the maternity ward. There she had the opportunity to be the first to bath, weigh and care for three of her granddaughters.
During this time she met Don and it was love at first sight, because 10 short days later they were married. This relationship gave her the security that she had never before had and for this, we will always be grateful. Together they bowled, boated, took ATV trips, camped throughout this country and traveled. Together they enjoyed what this year would be 48 years of marriage.
Mom always regretted that her own Mother wasn't able to see how good life had turned out to be for her. Mom loved her immediate and extended family. She loved all of her nieces and nephews that kept in touch with her (Aunt Donna). She was a caring person to all and had big enough shoulders to cry on. Everyone came to her for consoling and advice. In the time of need she was there with great concern and sincere love, like when Kenny was recovering from a horrible accident, wondering if he was going to make it. Or Butch as he battled cancer. Mom cared for her dad when he fell ill with cancer and she was there with love and support for her sisters and brother when they became terminally ill. Mom also had to say goodbye to two children, an infant death and the death of her son Johnny which she never quite got over. Mom always wondered why she was the last one left. We think she still had some business to take care of.
Mom was a very good person with a big heart, often hard headed but her heart was always in a good place. Mom was a well-respected person in her career and she cherished all of her relationships with her co-workers and patients. She enjoyed her retirement but she did like the gatherings and get-togethers that they always included her in after she retired.
We hope by saying goodbye to Donna the Mom, the Grandma, Aunt or friend you will have a fond memory of her and that you know she loved each and every one of you. She was truly blessed by being the matriarch of 5 generations. She was able to watch us kids grow up and have children of our own, and their kids have children. She was a proud Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma.
Mom, we love you. Thanks for everything you have done for us.
