Doris R. Carmichael Obituary (1922 - 2016)

Doris Ruth Altop Carmichael passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 8, 2016 in West Jordan, Utah. Doris was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 12, 1922 to David Altop and Elveda Anderson. Doris graduated from West High School and enjoyed roller-skating at the local rinks in her youth. She married Wilbur Woodrow (Woody) Carmichael on August 3, 1941 and resided in Holladay, Utah. For many years, Doris and Woody were actively involved in square dancing, line dancing, and taught line dancing at several senior centers throughout Salt Lake County. Doris was also an avid crafter; her talents included sewing, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. Throughout her life, Doris was a caregiver for many of her family members. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Milan) Bursach; brother, David Altop; sister, Betty (Ken) Lyman; grandsons, Steven (Sheri) Bursach and James (Shannon) Bursach; great-grandchildren, Austin (Victoria) Hardcastle, Nicole (Anthony) Howe, Jason Bursach, Zakk Bursach, Trevor Bursach, Jordan Bursach, Brock Bursach, Danielle Bursach, Ashlyn Bursach; and great-great-granddaughter Aubrey Hardcastle. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Woody Carmichael; her daughter, Joyce Johnson; her grandson, Michael Bursach; and her sister, June Knapp. Her family would like to give their appreciation to Ashley and the staff at ONECARE Hospice for their help and support. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 13, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 S. 1950 E., Sandy, UT. Viewings will be Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Monday morning from 9:30-10:15 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street.
