Dr. Ralph Seymour Bytendorp Obituary (1924 - 2012)

On November 8, 2012, Ralph S. Bytendorp passed away of Alzheimer's in Draper, Utah, with his loving wife by his side. He was born July 17, 1924 to Lain and Arvilla Seymour Bytendorp in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from Cedar City High School, he was drafted into the Navy and served three years. He was called on a mission to Samoa for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and later served two additional missions there with his wife Phyllis. Ralph married Phyllis Sperry in the Salt Lake Temple July 20, 1951 and has been married for 61 years. He graduated from BYU and St. Louis Dental School. He was known as "The Singing Dentist" in Salt Lake City. He loved the Lord and has served in several callings, including branch president, temple worker, etc. He lived in St. George the last 12 years. Survived by his wife, Phyllis Bytendorp; eight of nine children: Craig (Melvi), Wayne (Lisa), David (Maria), Joy (Randy)Wyner, Sharon (John)Walsh, (Jeanette), Richard (Susan), Diane ( Gordon)Swensen, and Brent (Tracy); 45 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; brother, Lain S. Bytendorp; sisters Wanda Spade and Winona Rice. Preceded in death by his son Douglas, grandchildren Jason and Holly, parents, sisters Ruth and Loritta, and brother Albert. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12th at 12:00 noon at the South Jordan River Ridge Stake Center, 10168 S. 1100 W, with a viewing from 11:00-11:45 a.m. prior to services. A viewing will also be held on Sunday, November 11th at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S.) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 E. Bengal Blvd, (7800 S).
