Earl "Jim" James Hutchins Jr. Obituary (1930 - 2008)

With heavy hearts our earthly family gathered around our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Earl James Hutchins Jr. [Jim] while our eternal family rejoicing, came to escort him back to our Father in Heaven. We take comfort in knowing that Families Are Forever. Earl James Hutchins Sr. and Bernice Snow welcomed Jim into their family as their firstborn on April 25, 1930. Later came Donald [Barbara], Derald, Raymond, Melba, Betty Schimpf, Kenneth [Marsha], John [Lavona], Ruth [Bruce], Carolyn Smith and Shirlee Mackay [Jay]. Jim graduated from High School in Rupert, Idaho and went on to serve in the United States Army as a cook in the 56th Service Battalion. In 1953 Jim received his mission call from Prophet David O. McKay. He served an honorable mission to South Africa and was able to return 50 years later with his wife Lois and several companions with their spouses for a wonderful reunion. Jim attended BYU where he met his eternal companion Lois Ann Midgley. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 10, 1956. Jim and Lois went on to attend the U of U. Their family was soon joined by 11 children; Lori, Jeffery, Bradley, Jerry [Sandra], Steven, Kari, Darin [Sherie], Tami Brown [Krehl], Jami, Jody [Susannah], and Tony [Joann]. Later came 23 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Jim happily served in many callings throughout his life. He had a special fondness for the Scouting program and was thrilled to receive the Silver Beaver Award. Some of Jim’s favorite hobbies included fishing, woodworking, building small replicas of stagecoaches and covered wagons, some crafts and scrapbooking family pictures. As a young married man Jim worked for National Biscuit Company [Nabisco] and then worked for Welders Supply Company for 30 years until he retired. Preceded in death by his parents, Sisters Melba and Shirlee, Brothers Derald, Donald and Raymond. Sons Jeffery, Bradley and Steven. Brother in law Ted Midgley [Marylyn]. Special thanks to the staff of Promise Hospital for their tender care. Funeral services will be held on Fri. Jan. 2, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Grandview 2nd Ward, 2930 S. 2000 E., SLC., UT. Viewing on Thur. Jan. 1, 2009 from 6–8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 S. State St., Murray, UT and at the church 9:45–10:45 am prior to the service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
