Edna LaRue Grayson Rustad Obituary (1938 - 2021)

Edna was graciously released from this mortal confinement to return to a loving heavenly home on May 10, 2021. She was born in her family home on September 12, 1938 to George Grayson and Geertje Klaassen. She was the youngest of five children; George Albert, Muriel Silvia, Rulon Wilbur, Gerald Kenneth. She was raised in the Millcreek area and remained there until the last year of her life. After she graduated from Olympus High, she attended the University of Utah and earned her degree in elementary education. She taught the second grade for 8 years. She used her gift as a teacher in many areas of her life, including raising her children and serving in various church callings. On August 19, 1966, Edna entered the Salt Lake Temple and was sealed to her eternal companion, Leonard Le Roy Rustad. Together they had five amazing children whom she loved with her whole heart, Brian (Jill Bruschke), Mark, Laura (Stephen) Gillett, Phillip (Kerri O’Bryant), and Sally (Eric) Lee. She left her career as an educator to devote her time to raising her children and serving all those around her. While raising her children she built and operated two successful businesses. Edna and Leonard loved to create memories and valued this over any materialistic possessions. The years they raised their family included yearly camping trips and vacations. When the children were older, they continued making memories through traveling and spending time with their grandchildren: Samantha, Rachel, Tyler, Kate, Jaclyn, Evan, Grayson, Adam, Brady, Nathan, Cole, Elyse and Clara. They also loved spending time with Edna’s sister, Muriel and her husband Wayne Newson, to whom Edna was very close. Edna and Leonard served 8 years as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the 12-step addiction recovery program. They often shared incredible stories of the love the Savior has for all of his children here on earth. Together, they touched the lives of those brave people working to overcome a trial. After Leonard passed, Edna served for 5 additional years. Edna gave all her time and energy to her family and serving those around her. She had an independent strong exterior and a squishy sensitive interior. She loved working in her garden and would most likely be found outside. In her last days of this life, she would always ask that her children and grandchildren would be told how much she loved them. She was well loved by those to whom she was close. Her spunky sense of humor, devotion, reliability, and good listening ear made for a valuable friend. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the caring staff, residents, and church groups at Sagewood at Daybreak. Mom missed her home, but your unified efforts gave her last year love, belonging, joy and opportunity to live her life at the best level possible. She received incredible care and enjoyed various fun activities while living in your beautiful building. Her last days were spent in the loving, tender care of the staff from Sagewood at Daybreak, Canyon Home Health and Hospice, and in the trusted hands of Trenaisa from House Call Doctors. To all of you, THANK YOU! Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S), South Jordan, Utah, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 am. Interment at Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
