Elizabeth Taylor Ottley Obituary (1918 - 2009)

“At Rest At Last” Mom was born in Salt Lake City on June 24, 1918 to George Francis and Barbara Stillman Taylor. She passed away February 28, 2009 in Bountiful, Utah. She grew up in East Mill Creek and graduated from Granite High. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii in 1941-42, laboring among the Japanese people whom she dearly loved. She was in the Honolulu area when Pearl Harbor was bombed. She was a scholar of the scriptures and a gifted teacher. She married Warren Sidney Ottley in the Salt Lake Temple on February 24, 1943. Two children were born to them: Warren Jr. (“Bub”) and Barbara Alice. They lived in Salt Lake, Murray, and East Mill Creek until 1958 when they moved to Garden Grove, California where they stayed for 20 years. In June 1961, just prior to her 42nd birthday, Mom suffered a debilitating stroke, which changed all of our lives immeasurably. Her will and determination to regain what was lost to her was remarkable. Dad and Mom settled in St. George in 1978 and were later divorced. Mom remained there until 2000 when health issues made it necessary to move her to Bountiful. She lived at Heritage Place until her passing; independently until September of 2005 when her health dramatically declined following the death of her beloved son, “Bub”, which necessitated assisted living care. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Francis, Seymour, Marvin and Roy; Warren Sr.; Warren Jr.; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hoffman (Bob); 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Bettye Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. Special heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Heritage Place, who have become choice friends, and to Tender Care Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at the Bountiful 11th Ward, 2000 So. Orchard Drive, Thursday, March 5 at 12 Noon with a viewing one hour prior. There will also be a viewing at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., Murray, on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
