Faye Halsey Kerner Whitmore Obituary (1917 - 2007)

“Finally free, let’s dance!” Faye Whitmore passed away April 10th surrounded by her family. She was 89 years young. Born November 11, 1917 to George and Matilda West Halsey. Married Dewayne “Jackie” Kerner in 1938. He passed away in 1964. They had 3 sons. Married Glendon Whitmore in 1969. He passed away in 1997. Preceded in death by a son, Bruce Kerner. Survived by her sons, Wayne (Diane) Kerner of Lehi, Michael (Christine) Kerner of West Valley City; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Kerner. Stepchildren, Glen R (Marlene) Whitmore, Barbara (Blaine) Harmon, Linda (Larry) Gull; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren, at last count. Each was special to her. Faye’s life revolved around her singing and Ballroom Dancing. Her beautiful soprano voice could be heard throughout the Southern California area performing for LDS Church Groups. Her love of dancing and sharing with others found her teaching at Calls Fine Art Center in Long Beach, where she taught young and old the joy of Ballroom Dancing. Later in her eighties, she enjoyed playing pool. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church where she served in the Relief Society, Young Women’s Program, and Choir Director. She served a mission with Glendon, in Australia in 1972-73. Born in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She grew up in Long Beach, Calif. She and Glen retired in St. George. Her last years were spent in Salt Lake City at Highland Cove, Atria, and ending at Woodland Park Care Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 14th at 11:00 AM at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., in Murray. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 Rancho Palos Verdes, California. A stroke crippled your body, but nothing could stop your spirit. Now dance.
