GERALDINE LITSTER WALTERS Obituary (1928 - 2017)

Devoted wife, wonderful mother and adored grandmother passed away on April 7, 2017. Born on April 28, 1928 in Cleveland, Utah to William T. Litster and Ida Viola Johnson, she had a wonderful childhood. She graduated from Huntington High where she formed friendships that lasted her entire lifetime aka 'Our Gang Forever'. She met and fell in love with Ralph H. Walters when he was a college student and she was a telephone operator. Their courtship began with 'number please'. Geraldine and Ralph moved often during a 40 year career with the telephone company. They raised 6 children during that time and chose to settle in Provo for their retirement years. They traveled extensively and loved serving two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one in England and one in Tucson, Arizona. They also served together as stake missionaries and as temple workers. Geraldine served faithfully in every auxiliary of the LDS church, often in leadership positions. Geraldine lovingly gave of her time and talents serving others. When her physical limitations kept her from serving in 'traditional' ways she learned to do indexing, remembered birthdays, and sent notes of encouragement to others. Throughout her life she had a love of learning. She loved to read, showed her family she could still water ski into her 60's, and learned to play the organ. Geraldine was the epitome of a supportive mom and grandma. She traveled to be there for baptisms, plays, games and other sporting events and just for 'grandma visits'. She was frequently called upon to appear in church films and videos and she loved that many of her children and grandchildren excelled in the performing arts and sports. She was an avid BYU fan and rarely missed a game. She had many health challenges and to remain mobile she swam, biked, exercised and through every challenge remained cheerful and positive. Her sense of humor endeared her to all who knew her. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Paideia Club. She left a legacy of love of country, love of family, and most importantly, love of her Savior and a desire to be like Him. She overcame her adversities so well we thought she was indestructible. In the end she had not just endured to the end, she enjoyed to the end. Geraldine is survived by one sister, Yvonne Simon; six children, Maxine (Jasper) Morris, Cathy (Steve) Hill, Helen (Greg) Melchin, Nancy Walters, Colleen (Paul) Jones, Ken (Michelle) Walters; 22 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:30 am in the Grandview 9th Ward Chapel located at 1555 North 1350 West, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the same location Friday, April 14th from 6 to 8 pm and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:15 am prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
