Garth Howard Tolbert Obituary (1927 - 2019)

Garth Howard Tolbert, 92, passed away, Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at his home in Riverton UT due to complications from a stroke. He was born January 28, 1927 in Abraham UT, the eldest of nine children to Clinton Tolbert and Myrtle Mitchell Tolbert. He attended schools in Hinckley and Delta and after high school he joined the Army and was stationed in the Panama Canal as a cook in the military hospital. After his discharge he returned to Delta Utah and married Opal Jean Watson (his little blondie) in the Manti Temple on Sept 10, 1947. They had 4 children, Lynnette, Margo, Howard and Bruce. He was a long line truck driver for 26 years-owning his own company and business and 16 years driving for Hatch Co and IML, driving millions of accident free miles. After the death of his beloved Blondie in 1973, he married Beth Albrecht Young in Jan 1974 and became step-father to Beth’s 7 children. Upon his retirement they moved back to “The Farm” in Abraham, Utah in 1983 and began his 3rd occupation as a farmer. In Sept 2007 they sold and moved to Riverton, Utah to be closer to their children. He loved to DRIVE, hunt, be in the outdoors and to go camping with his family. He is survived by his children Lynnette (Dennis) Abernethy, Margo (Elwin) Elison, Bruce Tolbert, step-children Dennie (Susan) Robinson, Randy (Susie) Robinson, Annette Jonas, Francene (Ken) Exinberger, George (Jan) Young, Shayne (Kris) Young and Karen (Bruce) Wathen. Daughter-in-law Debbie Camp, his siblings Stan (Beth) Tolbert, Darwin Tolbert, Garry (Gloria) Tolbert and ReNae Cooper. 45 Grandchildren, 70 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. Proceeded in death by his wives Opal Jean and Beth, son Howard, parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Viewing to be held Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home 1007 W South Jordan Parkway, (10600 So), South Jordan UT 84095. Funeral, Monday, April 1, 2019 at the LDS Stake Center at 3113 West 13400 So.
