George A. Miller, M.D. Obituary (1922 - 2009)

George A. Miller, M.D. was born October 6, 1922 to Abiah W. and Velma Jaynes Miller in Claresholm, Alberta, Canada, and died January 13, 2009 in Murray, Utah at the Intermountain Medical Center. He served in the Canadian Military during World War II. He married Maurine Cowan on June 19, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from BYU and the University of Alberta Medical School in Edmonton, Alberta in 1951. He practiced medicine in Murray until his retirement in 1988. He served as Chief of Staff at Cottonwood Hospital in 1971 and other years on different hospital committees. He was selected as Physician of the Year in 1981. He has served in many LDS church positions, including High Councilman, Bishop and in two Stake Presidencies. He and Maurine served in the Massachusetts Boston Mission and as ordinance workers in the Jordan River and the Washington DC temples. He is survived by his wife, Maurine; sons, Larry Miller (Nancy), Dennis Miller (Paula), Theron Miller (Joy); daughter, Larene Miller Wyss (Robert); 20 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death. Friends may greet the family at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, on Sunday, January 18, 2009, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the Murray 3rd Ward, 4600 South Brown Street (160 East), on Monday, January 19, 2009, at 12 Noon. Friends may also greet the family at the church Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery on Tuesday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund or the Primary Children’s Hospital.
