View Funeral Webcast Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend George Thomas Molen (Tom) passed away January 31, 2021, at the home of his daughter, Sheryl Hague, who was caring for him at the time, following a courageous 13-year battle with Cancer and Parkinson’s Disease. Tom was born April 30, 1939 in Great Falls, MT, a son of Reid Lowery and Iona West Molen, where he grew up with his two brothers and two sisters. He married his sweetheart Dorothy Leslie Haney on August 18, 1960 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and together raised five cherished children. At Great Falls High School Tom excelled in football, wrestling, and track as well as being class president all four years. He continued his outstanding career in football at Montana State University. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served as Bishop of Glenmoor 4th Ward, Senior Couple Missionaries in West Valley City and Rose Park, and as a Temple Worker at Oquirrh Mountain Utah. Tom was a very proud Marine Corps Officer who would sing the Marine Corp Hymn as requested, any time, any place. Our father was probably best known for the positive influence he provided as an educator, drivers ed instructor, athletic director and coach to many young athletes in high school and college both in Montana and Utah. As a respected collegiate coach at BYU under Tommy Hudspeth, Tom was instrumental in recruiting several San Diego Marines, changing BYU’s football history; and later returned a second time to BYU as a coach under LaVell Edwards. A favorite pastime was following the athletes and coaches he worked with through their successes in life. He was humbled and honored to be inducted into the Utah Chapter of the National Football Foundation’s Hall of Fame. Later in life our football coach added to his plate by becoming a franchise owner and realtor of Century 21, where he developed a passion for real estate and loved driving around and locating homes and properties for his business. Tom appreciated his sister Karen working beside him during his real estate career. Family was everything to Tom. He adored his wife, children, grand-children, and great grand-children, and was always so proud watching his family participate in all their activities and accomplishments. And let us not forget the family parties, which always included lots of family favorite foods. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; children: Brad (Stephenie) Molen, Susan (Dave) Soule, Brett (Kristin) Molen, Bryan (Brandi) Molen, Sheryl (Brad) Hague, grand-children: Brant, Bronson, BreAnne, Brittany, Brooklyn, Tristin, Brandon, Shaylee, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Benjamin, Samuel, Mikelle, Allyson, Tucker, Alyssa, Kaylee, Mason, Vivienne, Colin, Sadi, Saige, Skylee; great grand-children: Jovie, Skye, Brant, Kezlyn, Brookelle, Daxton; brother, Louie Molen; sister, Karen Lundquist. Preceded in death by parents Reid & Iona Molen; brother, Michael Molen, sister, Janice Yarbrough, and grandson Brant Molen. The family expresses their sincere thanks to all the wonderful healthcare workers over the years: Primary Care Physician: Dr. Peter Christensen; Huntsman Cancer Institute; Rocky Mountain Care (Riverton); Tender Care Hospice; Beehive Senior Care; Bishop Ralph Spencer; and loving family members, friends, and neighbors for their many kindnesses. With an extra special thanks to Tom’s daughter Sheryl Hague for bringing our Dad to her home and caring for him in the final month of his life. A family viewing for the public will be held Friday, February 5, from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, UT; please follow health safety guidelines.
