Glen Allen Hoggan Obituary (1931 - 2016)

Well, the Hoggans are all together again. Glen Allen Hoggan was born on May 20, 1931 in Granger, Utah to Frank Allen Hoggan and Ellis Mae Peterson Hoggan. He attended Monroe Elementary School that had a dirt playground with circles to play marbles on, and Glen has a bag full of marbles in his basement to testify that he was pretty good. Glen proceeded to Granite High School. Previously Monroe students attended Cypress High School, however in his year they were sent to Granite High School. The Lord made this arrangement so that Glen could meet LeRae Christensen. She was the most wonderful and beautiful lady on earth. Together they were blessed with seven remarkable children, 25 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Each is outstanding and becomes better as each year passes. Shortly after enlisting in the National Guard, Glen's unit was the first to be activated for the Korean Conflict. He graduated first in his class at Airborne Training and on his first parachute jump he wore the coveted blue helmet. He was a member of the Green Beret Special Forces, serving seven tours of duty at the Pentagon as director of the Crisis Control Center. After 35 years in the United States Army he retired as a full colonel. After teaching elementary school for four looong years, he was hired by the textbook publishing business with the aid of his brother-in-law, Jerry Jackman. He began as a representative in Utah and Idaho and retired as the national sales manager for Harper and Row and MacMillan Publishers. Glen completed the requirements to be an Eagle Scout, received the Silver Beaver Award, served on Wood Badge staffs and participated with the National Camp Inspection team for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Utah Pioneers. He competed in marathons. Glen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served on high counsels, as a bishop and a stake president. He served seven full- time missions with his wife including assignments as head the department for lost membership records, director of Church Service Missionaries and administrator at the Church College in the Fiji Islands. In celebration of Glen's life, a memorial service will be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake Millcreek Stake Center Chapel located at 4220 South Jeannine Dr. (420 East) Murray, UT, with a visitation from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Glen's life was dedicated to serving others.
