Glenda Winget Spencer Smith Obituary (1922 - 2010)

Our beloved Glenda quietly passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010, due to complications following surgery. She was born March 23, 1922, in Monroe, Utah, daughter of Luther and Thirza Lavina Anderson Winget. She grew up in Monroe graduating from South Sevier High School. Glenda married Hyrum Lamar Spencer May 23, 1940, in the Manti Temple. Hyrum was killed in WWII on December 31, 1944, Hamburg, Germany. Glenda married Thurman Vinton Smith September 25, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a lifelong active member of the L.D.S. Church serving in many capacities in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She was a former employee of Gibsons, Woolworths, and J.C. Penneys and a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers as well as an enthusiastic member of the Red Hatters. Glenda did an amazing job of blending two families and was the stabilizing factor in raising two daughters and three sons. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Hyrum Lamar Spencer and their son, Ronald Hyrum Spencer and her second husband, Thurman Vinton Smith and his son, Verl Edward Smith. There are also five sisters, four brothers, and three grandchildren that have predeceased her. Glenda is survived by Carolyn (Kay) Baker, Logan, Utah, Kenneth Austin (Francene) Spencer, South Jordan, Utah, LaMar Eldon Smith, Layton, Utah, and Glenda (John) Ledgard, Puyallup, Washington, a brother J Oscar (Carla) Winget, Monroe, Utah, 18 grandchildren, and 44 great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.) South Jordan, Utah, where friends and family may call on Friday evening, February 5th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Saturday 3:00 p.m. in the Aurora City Cemetery, Aurora, Utah. Special thanks to Intermountain Medical Center, Haven Hospice and Legacy Retirement for their support and care.
