Glenn Lawrence Martin Obituary (1944 - 2021)

Glenn Lawrence Martin passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on February 4, 2021 at the age of 76 after an eight year battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. Glenn was born July 23, 1944 in Smoke Run, Pennsylvania to Samuel Martin and Dorothy Irene Robeson. Growing up in a small coal mining town in Pennsylvania, Glenn enjoyed the freedoms and adventures that come with living in a rural area. He explored the abandoned coal mines, chased after chipmunks and got into mischief with his older brothers. Because his high school was so small he played in all the sports. His favorite sport was track and field in which he lettered. At the age of 20, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Hill Field Air Force Base in northern Utah. This is where he met and fell in love with a secretary on the base, Caryn Joan Lee. They married and had four children together. They were later divorced. After his discharge from the service he attended Weber State College where he received his Bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Ogden Utah and Denver Colorado. Later he moved his family to Grand Junction Colorado where he began his career in Real Estate. In 1986 he moved his family to Murray Utah. He made his living in Real Estate until he retired. He enjoyed the outdoors and took his family camping on numerous occasions. He was an expert gardener and enjoyed sharing the produce with neighbors. Playing church basketball was one of his favorite activities. Later in life he met and married the love of his life, Merri Lou Swan. Together they enjoyed long evening walks, gardening, traveling and serving in church callings. He was the ward mission leader for 8 years. With his friendly and accepting personality, he was able to serve and connect with many different people. He freely shared his big Glenn smile with everyone including strangers passing by. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Doug, and sisters Bonnie and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife, Merri Lou Martin, daughter Lisa (Troy) Shoop, sons Tim Martin (Jim McCormack), Bradley (Megan) Martin, Kevin (Katara) Martin and eight grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice for their loving care to Glenn and support to Merri Lou in the last two months. A viewing will be held Monday, February 8, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for friends and family at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 South State Street Murray Utah 84107. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 11:00am with a private family viewing at 10:00am. Due to covid-19 restrictions attendance at the service is limited to family members only. The services will be available to watch via webcast. A face mask is required for all those attending.
