Guy Timothy Obituary (1924 - 2010)

It is with great sadness that we report the death of our Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Cousin, Guy Timothy. He passed peacefully on October 29, 2010, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by members of his family. Guy was born in Cedar View, Utah on February 1, 1924, the son of Gladys Timothy and Sabey Timothy. As a boy he lived in several towns within the Uinta Basin, and at the tender age of 18 he moved to Salt Lake to find work. This is where he met his future bride and life-long sweetheart, Donna Taylor and they were married on August 11, 1944. She passed away Jan. 22, 2007. He was heart broken and very lonely after her death. Although they remained in Salt Lake, one of their favorite activities was to visit family in the Uinta Basin. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942 and immediately moved to Salt Lake to seek employment. A heart murmur kept him from serving into the armed forces. A man of so many accomplishments that it is hard to list them all and always a family and business man, he was very successful, having operated Arctic Circle restaurants for many years. He succeeded in his goal to eventually have his whole family working together in a family business. He started and ran several small businesses including Searchlight Advertising Company and Drive-in Distributing. He purchased other already established businesses including the Richy Theater and Poll Sound. Guy and Donna started into square dancing in the 60's and later formed a club called the Farmers and Charmers. Guy was an avid square dance caller for close to 20 years. His favorite calling jobs were for one time beginner square dances for youth and church groups. Always an industrious, resourceful, and generous, self starter Guy was an excellent family provider and patriarch. He was talented and self taught at almost everything he did, and truly a self made man. His retired life was always full of various projects built by his own hands around his home, children’s homes and recreation property, Back Achers. He was loved and well respected by all who knew him, and will be truly missed by his family and friends Special thanks to CareSource for their tender loving care. He is survived by sons, Bart, Deward (Kathy), and Kale (Pam), 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grand children. He is proceeded in death by his wife Donna, his parents, one grandson, Scott Timothy. A viewing will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State, Murray, Utah and on Friday from 11-11:45 a.m. A graveside service will be held in his honor at 12 noon at Elysian Gardens.
