Henry Robert Patton Obituary (1919 - 2007)

“What do you mean, you can’t?” Henry R. “Pat” Patton, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully with his loving and devoted wife, Thelma at his side. Born October 4, 1919 to Mary and Samuel Patton in the Sandhills of Nebraska. Pat worked with the CCC, before enlisting in the Army Air Corp. Pat was sent to the Philippines, survived the Battan Death March, was a guerilla fighter months before being recaptured and shipped to Japan where he was liberated from the iron mines at the end of WWII. Pat was later given the Bronze Star and was an honoree at the World War II Dedication Ceremony in Washington, D.C. in 2004. After graduation at University of Missouri, Pat had a distinguished career, initially as a journalist in Illinois, then in sales and marketing with Cargill and Nutrena Feeds in Minneapolis, Indianapolis and finally retiring in Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters, and is survived by his wife of 61 years, Thelma, son, Roy, daughter, Jeannie, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pat was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many responsible callings throughout his life. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2007 at the Murray 8th Ward, 160 East 4600 South. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
